Music Instrument Instruction [OPTIONAL]:

For instruction, my first recommendation is to barter with another homeschool mom/dad. So if you could teach sewing or knitting to a few kids in a trade for them teaching your children an instrument, definitely go that route first.

Try a local homeschool group or co-op and ask around! See if someone from your church is able to teach your children guitar or piano! Sweet grandmas at church love to teach young children piano, I’ve seen that happen so often. It can never hurt to ask around.

This does two things : Your child spends time maybe learning about another person they wouldn’t have gotten to know that’s in their community, and your child learns a skill they might get to use later. Maybe someday they will be the sweet grandma or grandpa at church teaching young children to play for the Lord.

The other thing we do is use YouTube to learn songs that my kids want to learn how to play and follow the instruction for that.

For instruments, try seeking local rental, or borrowing from someone or using at someone else’s house. You can also purchase one of the best you can afford and have your children share. Often buying a cheap instrument makes for frustrated learning.

*Parents: VideoLink (formely Safe YouTube) is no longer a free service for sharing videos the way we do on our Links Pages. So far previously made links are still working through their site, but going forward, any newly created links will only take you directly to the video on YouTube. If you would like to use VideoLink it is still free for previewing videos, just not creating permanent shareable links. The link to their site is provided below and you just need to copy the url of the video and then paste it in on their site. It will be a temporary link so do this when you're ready to watch the video. We apologize for any inconvenience!

Also please note - We have made every effort to find fun, engaging, and thought-provoking videos, while striving for wholesomeness as best we could. We know there are vast differences in what is permitted for each individual family. We ask that you preview videos before giving them to your children to watch and make sure they meet whatever standards you have set for your screen time. We feel sure that most of our families are doing this already, but we wanted to make a point of posting this as a reminder.
